A Tribute to Alexander Calder

2013
public wooden installation
MAMAC, Nice, France

In 1970, Alexander Calder creates Stabile-Mobile, a sculpture enthroned on the esplanade of the Museum of Modern Art and Contemporary Art of Nice (MAMAC). Forty-three years later, the facade of the museum has been renovated, and to make the opening of the new building unforgettable, the director of the institution (Gilbert perlein) called on the talent of Arne Quinze. The Belgian created a sculpture echoing the effect of duality represented in the ephemeral sculpture by Calder, solid but seemingly fragile. Ultimately, painting the wooden installation in his vibrant trademarked orange colour. Making it a ‘gigantic’ tribute.
